Bereaved Through Suicide Support Group

When a relative or close friend suicides – you are not alone – The Bereaved Through Suicide Support Group provides help and guidance to those grieving the loss of someone through suicide.

The group comprises people from all walks of life. Their common link is that they have been close to someone who has suicided – relative, child, friend or acquaintance. They are able to provide help and guidance to anyone bereaved through suicide. They are able to provide many of the answers to your questions through their personal experiences and provide comfort and support to help you through this difficult time.

The group is administered by its own committee and is supported by a council of professional advisors.

The easiest way to make contact initially is by telephoning or writing to Bereaved Through Suicide Support Group Inc.

Services provided:

  • Telephone counselling 8am-8pm 7 days a week
  • Support group meeting 3rd Wed. of each month at 7.00pm – 9.00pm

BeyondBlue

  • Beyondblue is primarily a national telephone and internet information service and can also refer people to accurate, up to date, easy to read information on depression, anxiety and related disorders.
  • All calls and chats are one-on-one with a trained mental health professional, and completely confidential.
  • Beyondblue is not a health service, drop-in, or a crisis service: the postal address is for administration needs.

LIFELINE

LIFELINE provides a 24hr telephone counselling service that is compassionate, non-judgmental, confidential and supportive of people from all walks of life, in need or in crisis.
Counsellors are trained to help with crises in areas such as isolation, relationship difficulties, domestic violence, suicide, youth issues, loss and grief, mental health, child abuse, sexual abuse, drug and alcohol abuse, gambling etc.

LIFELINE has been helping South Australians of all ages, religions and social groups since 1963. In that time, our counsellors have dealt with just about every human problem.

Living Beyond Suicide (ANGLICARESA)

Living Beyond Suicide offers survivor-sensitive early support for families bereaved through suicide. Emotional and practical support is provided by appropriately skilled and trained staff and volunteers to help families navigate service systems and access the assistance they need.

The service will engender a sensitivity to those bereaved through suicide and responsiveness within services, public authorities and the wider community through community-based education and capacity building.

Loss & Grief Camps ANGLICARESA

The Star Bear program is a partnership between Anglicare Loss and Grief Centre.

Star Bear is a grief support program for children aged 5-12. For teenagers up to 17 there is the Star Bound program for  teenagers who are grieving the death of a parent, sibling or significant person.

Children attend a weekend camp conducted by trained mentors/leaders. The programe aims to increase children’s understanding of death and the grieving process, as well as providing them with the opportunity to share their experiences with other children. both camps aee run by proffesionals and volunteairs in the area.

Minimisation of Suicide Harm (MOSH Australia)

MOSH is dedicated to reducing the impact of suicide on the general community by supporting those at risk and those beraved by suicide. MOSH believed suicide prevention is a whole of community responsibility and everyone can make a difference, giebn the right support and information.

  • Walk in service for those at risk of suicide or bereaved by suicide 
  • Group support for those bereaved by suicide  1-3pm every wednesday 
  • Art/craft groups Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 1-3pm

Suicide Call Back Service

The Suicide Call Back Service is a 24-hour, nationwide service that provides telephone and online counselling to people 15 years and over who fit one of the following categories:

  • People who are suicidal
  • People caring for someone who is suicidal
  • People bereaved by suicide
  • Health professionals supporting people affected by suicide.

The Suicide Call Back Service is especially suited to people who are geographically or emotionally isolated.

Professional counsellors, with specialist skills in working with suicide-related issues, will assist you in working through difficult emotions. The counsellor will help you with goal planning, ensuring your own safety and help to link you to other services in the community.

Services provided:

  • Immediate telephone counselling and support in a crisis
  • Six further telephone counselling sessions with the same counsellor scheduled at times best suited to your needs

The Compassionate Friends South Australia

Compassionate Friends (SA) is part of a world wide support organisation for bereaved parents. This is regardless of the age of the child at death or the manner of death. Services provided include monthly support groups in 3 metropolitan locations, telephone support to members, a bi-monthly newsletter, a range of brochures and a resource library. A CandleLight service is held in December each year. Some support is also provided to siblings and grandparents.

The Victim Support Service Inc. (VSS) of S.A. is a community based, not-for-profit organisation in South Australia, which provides a comprehensive range of services for people who have suffered as a result of a criminal offence.
