Bereaved Through Suicide Support Group

When a relative or close friend suicides – you are not alone – The Bereaved Through Suicide Support Group provides help and guidance to those grieving the loss of someone through suicide.

The group comprises people from all walks of life. Their common link is that they have been close to someone who has suicided – relative, child, friend or acquaintance. They are able to provide help and guidance to anyone bereaved through suicide. They are able to provide many of the answers to your questions through their personal experiences and provide comfort and support to help you through this difficult time.

The group is administered by its own committee and is supported by a council of professional advisors.

The easiest way to make contact initially is by telephoning or writing to Bereaved Through Suicide Support Group Inc.

Cancer Care Centre Inc.

The Cancer Care Centre Inc. is a non-profit, non-denominational association formed in Adelaide.

It was inspired by cancer patients, their families and concerned individuals who believe that they have been able to contribute greatly to their own well being in overcoming the many challenges cancer presents.

Our primary aim is to provide active support for cancer patients and their families. The Cancer Care Centre promotes peace of mind and a healthy lifestyle, through:

Compassionate Friends (SA)

Compassionate Friends (SA) is part of a world wide support organisation for bereaved parents. This is regardless of the age of the child at death or the manner of death. Services provided include monthly support groups in 3 metropolitan locations, telephone support to members, a bi-monthly newsletter, a range of brochures and a resource library. A CandleLight service is held in December each year. Some support is also provided to siblings and grandparents.

Kids Helpline

Kids Helpline is Australia's only free, private and confidential, telephone and online counselling service specifically for young people aged between 5 and 25. Calls from mobile phones, landlines and payphones are free if you are calling from within Australia. Nothing is too big or too small to call us about, and we will always listen and try to understand. Telephone is the quickest way to get through to us.

LIFELINE provides a 24hr telephone counselling service that is compassionate, non-judgmental, confidential and supportive of people from all walks of life, in need or in crisis.
Counsellors are trained to help with crises in areas such as isolation, relationship difficulties, domestic violence, suicide, youth issues, loss and grief, mental health, child abuse, sexual abuse, drug and alcohol abuse, gambling etc.

LIFELINE has been helping South Australians of all ages, religions and social groups since 1963. In that time, our counsellors have dealt with just about every human problem.

MensLine Australia

MensLine Australia is the national telephone and online support, information and referral service for men with family and relationship concerns. The service is available from anywhere in Australia and is staffed by professional counsellors, experienced in men’s issues. Through our dedicated counselling services, available through a range of modalities, MensLine provides:

  • A safe and private place to talk about concerns;
  • Confidential, anonymous and non-judgmental support;
  • Coaching and practical strategies for managing personal relationship concerns;
  • Relevant information and linkage to other appropriate services and programs as required.

Services provided:

  • Open line – an immediate, single-session discussion and support available 24/7
  • Call back service – ongoing support through a series of up to six follow-up telephone counselling sessions with the same counsellor
  • Arabic call back service – culturally appropriate ongoing support for Australia’s Arabic community
  • Online counselling – text-based counselling available through the MensLine Australia website
  • Video counselling – face-to-face counselling available via Skype for men in rural and remote Australia

Minimisation of Suicide Harm (MOSH Australia)

MOSH is dedicated to reducing the impact of suicide on the general community by supporting those at risk and those beraved by suicide. MOSH believed suicide prevention is a whole of community responsibility and everyone can make a difference, giebn the right support and information.

The Cancer Council Helpline

The Cancer Council Helpline is a support and information service for people concerned about cancer or affected by cancer personally or indirectly.

The Helpline is staffed by nurse health counsellors who have extensive experience in cancer nursing and counselling. The Helpline provides information and support and is the first access point for other Cancer Council services such as counselling and cancer support programs. Information can also be provided on support available in the community.

The Cancer Council South Australia provides the Helpline as a free and confidential service.

It is the first point of access for information on Cancer Council services and provides professional support to people concerned about cancer.
